What a great day out! We often like to take our own advice and venture out to some of the events we highlight on our Facebook page and today we picked a good’n! Sydney has come a long way over the last decade in embracing diversity and although much work remains, today was a warming example of what an open heart and mind can achieve in bringing vastly different people together in one place harmoniously.

Fair Day kicked off Sydney’s 2015 Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras perfectly with arms wide open and a whole lot to give. We feasted, we laughed, we met some truly unique and amazing people and we may have been roped into a little random and somewhat embarrassing public boogie. The fair was surprisingly huge with a whole heap of food stalls and trucks, a market place, centre stage entertainment and rides for the kids. Even the doggies got to strut their Mardi Gras thang in a swanky dog show fitting for the festivities.

What made this day was the vibe. Everyone was happy and friendly creating that united sense of community that the Gay and Lesbian community is synonymous for. Corporate and Government representative stalls were out in full force including NSW Police, ANZ and NSW Firies flaunting their raunchy annual calendar.

As we settle into the few weeks long season there are numerous events, parties and exhibitions taking place right up to the parade. These events attract thousands of people from all over the globe and it has to be one of the best times of the year to be in Sydney. For all event news visit Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

Sadly, Fair Day is over for 2015 but it’s certainly a well established event and an institution in the name of Mardi Gras that will live on. So be sure to check it out next year. In the meantime Happy Mardi Gras Sydney!
